Day Trip

On route to the Grand Canyon we stopped at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign to take photos. We arrived there just before the crowds, so had peace to take a few shots before more tourists arrived.

We continued onto the border between Nevada and Arizona and saw the Colorado River and the huge Hoover Dam. This area looked interesting, but we only had time for a quick look.

We also stopped at Seligman on historic Route 66. This town apparently featured in the film 'Cars'. I would like to follow more of this old highway.

We booked a tour through GC Tours to the Grand Canyon. It was a small group VIP tour with six tourists and our driver guide - a very friendly half German/half Japanese American guy called Charlie.

Good things about this tour were: it provided hotel pick up and drop off even though our hotel was not on the strip. Secondly and very important for me, there were frequent toilet and food stops, but any food bought was consumed in the car to save time. Charlie took us to many points of interest and allowed plenty of time for photo taking.

Our first stop was the iconic Welcome to Las Vegas sign, then Hoover dam and the Colorado River, then an area of Route 66. At the Canyon itself we stopped at four viewing points - all of them were spectacular. We also managed to see several elk.

We had a great day for the canyon. The sun was shining, but there was snow on the ground - so so beautiful.
